This is going to be a quick one and should be super-easy to read. It is not going to be super-easy to write: my laptop is functioning more slowly than my fingers and seems to be freestyling where deleting is concerned. I'm going to stick with it for now but, if this post should end suddenly, assume I have pressed 'Publish post' in frustration. Okay, it's a one-topic post, as has been my wont of late. That's also today's topic, as it happens: the deviation from my previous formatting (the old 'This week I have been...' followed by all the things I have been up to during the week) to more singular posts/musings on one topic or another. Topic. Good word. Is it for better or for worse? I'll tell you some of the reasons for the change then ask the question again, by which time I hope you will have formulated some kind of response/opinion. So,
- The blog was originally a way to keep writing during periods of freelance drought. Now, however, I am writing quite a lot day to day: fiction, poetry etc. Ooh, I bet they're literary masterpieces, I hear you say. Of course they are. However, I cannot share them with you on here as they then cease to be 'original and unpublished'. Two things that publishers kind of have a thing about. So all that genius has to be kept under wraps for the time being.
- I also used to outline my exercise and physical activity for the week. Running, yoga, Pilates, lovely walks, cycling: I was such a well-rounded person. Now, however, my regime can be summarised very neatly: going to ballet all the time. That's still awesome for me and I continue to reap the benefits and take part in 'fun' ballet challenges. I do not think it would be the best reader experience, though. So I have decided not to bang on about it every week (any more).
- My phenomenal handmade items. I took up crochet at the end of last year and knitting a couple of months later. I love sharing these projects with you! I also happen to have a number of things on the go at present: more complex than before, different techniques, beautiful yarns, some very cool patterns and some of my own designs. The problem is that all of these projects are secret: that is, the intended recipient is ignorant of its existence in every case (they're not entirely secret, because I have a tendency to grumble/brag re said complexity of said projects: just not to the person I'm - secretly - making it for. That wouldn't be very cool). This does mean that, in due course, I will have a number of finished items to show you. I'm so happy with how these are all progressing, but they are really not quick wins, so I have started them well ahead of time and hopefully you will love seeing them once they have been handed over to the incredibly lucky and loved recipients.
So that's the top and bottom of it. All the above reasons have led me to produce a different style of post for the last couple of months: more one-topic, less look-at-all-the-wonderful-things-I-do (oh yes, I was also concerned that it could be exceptionally annoying to read about my sunny life week on week). What's the verdict, then? I have had some awesome feedback re recent posts, but I'm aware that some of you may just be reading to see what's going on in my life, look at pictures etc and there hasn't been as much of that lately. Come on, the comments function is there for a reason! Get feeding back and see if I take any notice.
